Timber decking vs Composite Decking
Nothing beats the look and feel of natural timber for outdoor decking. Perfectly suited to the Australian lifestyle, timber has a warmth and beauty that compliments outdoor living spaces for most styles of homes.
Our preferred timber for decking is Australian hardwood as it provides excellent strength and longevity for both the frames and the decking boards. It has natural oils that don't require additional hazard treatment to prevent decay. Whilst we also use treated pine, it is not quite as sturdy but of course it can be a nice cost effective option if your budget is restricted.
A variety of styles and prices to suit
Natural timber can be found in a variety of colour options from deep red, dark browns and golden hues to meet most people's personal taste. In addition to the natural tones you get, the great advantage of using timber decking is the price. Expect to pay anything from $250 plus a square metre for hardwood decking such as merbau or ironbark whilst treated pine can cost around $170 plus a square metre.
Additional maintenance
On the downside, timber decking does require more maintenance. Being exposed to the elements everyday, your timber slats have to be periodically checked, cleaned, oiled and sealed to ensure longevity.
